TWO SENSOR DEVICES, ONE ENVIRONMENTAL SENSOR AND A BIOMARKER SENSOR
Two sensor devices, one environmental sensor and a biomarker sensor, flexible in terms of targeted pollutants and biomarkers
There will be two separate devices: an environmental sensor and a biomarker sensor.
The environmental sensor is going to be a portable device including a battery that is supposed to be worn at the arm. COPD- and CF-patients are the intended users as well as healthy subjects. The sensor measures different environmental values and concentrations in a variable frequency. The values are temperature and relative humidity, particulate matter as well as some gases (NO2, O3, volatile organic carbons [VOCs], CO and SO2). These gases are known or suspected to have an influence on the cause and progress of CF and COPD.

The biomarker sensor is intended to measure selected targets in exhaled breath condensate (EBC) of patients. These targets are 3-Nitrotyrosin, Hexanal and Neutrophilic elastase. These markers can be used to evaluate the disease progress of COPD or CF. The measurement principle includes the use of functional surfaces and impedance spectroscopy. Users of the device will be trained medical/technical personnel in the participating institutes.
