A PAN-EUROPEAN MULTI-CRITERIA RISK ASSESSMENT TOOL MAPPING THE OVERALL EXPOSOME RISK-RELATED PULMONARY DISEASES IN EUROPE

The objective of this tool is to construct a synthetic risk indicator for comparing European countries by overall level of risk of pulmonary diseases. Classical additive scores of risk are unable to properly assess countries for the following reasons:

  • Additive scores are unable to distinguish opposite risk profiles
  • Qualitative risk variables can not be taken into account in additive scoring
  • Additive risk scores have only “ordinal” metric but not “cardinal” metric

The original approach used in Remedia is to use multidimensional analyses for constructive a synthetic risk indicator instead of simple additive risk scoring. This methodological approach has been specifically developed and successfully tested and implemented by partner DMI in the frame of a World Health Organization project for assessing the risk of Yellow Fever (Briand, 2009), Human influenza and overall epidemic risk in the world.

The assessment of overall risk of respiratory diseases across Europe allowed to design original risk maps be level of risk
